OCEANSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY RECEIVES GRANT FROM NEA

The Oceanside Public Library has received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host The Big Read in the Oceanside area.

The Big Read gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss and celebrate one of 30 selections from American and world literature. The Big Read in Oceanside will focus on The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien.

The Oceanside Public Library will be partnering with several local organizations, educational institutions and veteran’s groups to enhance the reach and impact of this significant reading event. Activities will take place in April and May of 2010.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. Additional support for The Big Read is provided by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Public Library Foundation.

The Oceanside Public Library is one of 269 organizations selected nationwide to participate in The Big Read.
