Summer Reading Kick-off Celebration
Make a hands-on start to the Summer Reading Program and “create a critter” with local artist and teacher Garit Imhof. Come learn about what different animals are like and what they do; play music and sing; and make your own, unique critter to take home.

The World of Chisel
Perry Crompton, author of the book “Chisel Hedgehog: Crazy Great Summer”; and Keleny Crompton, lead performer on the accompanying CD, present a program full of adventure, fun, and optimism. Enjoy songs, a video, and a story reading and slide show; learn about making illustrations and CDs; and get some cool freebies!

Dog Day of Art
Share an afternoon of laughter and delight when our four-legged friends show off their artistic side. Meet an author who will reveal what inspired her to create her books. And if you’ve never read to a dog before, now is your chance to see what a great listener a dog can be!

Caricature Artist Ricardo Vasquez
Have you ever watched a caricaturist make exaggerated pictures of people at a park or event, and wondered how it’s done? Meet a local artist who will share his special skills, talk about his work, and help you draw your very own caricature.

Museum Day at the Library
The Oceanside Museum of Art is just up the block from the Civic Center Library. A special, free children’s tour of the Library’s next-door neighbor will begin at the Library; parents and children will be led to the Museum. Following the tour, inspired children will return to the Library to create unique art they can take home with them.
For ages 6 and up.

Museum Madness
The whole family is invited to participate in a memorable storytime which will include stories, songs and crafts about rocks, fossils, statues, and famous paintings. Every child will get their own, personal, genuine rock to decorate for display at home.

Dance Around The World
Local dance instructor Nikola Clay will teach everyone folk dances from many countries. Folk dancing is a wonderful way to introduce children to the music and culture of other regions, and keep homeland traditions alive. Families are sure to enjoy this delightful and engaging program!

Harry Potter & Friends’ Magic Academy
The magic is back this summer with the Library’s first-ever evening Harry Potter event!
From 5:00 -7:00 p.m., become a wizard Academy student:
--Travel from “class” to “class”, learning all the magic you need to know to graduate.
--Enjoy refreshments from the Academy kitchen.
--Test your Harry Potter knowledge.
--Win prizes!
From 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Gather under the stars for a final hour of fantastic magic from special guest…Magician Joe Mystic!
Free for all ages. Pre-registration is required. Sign up for your free tickets at any Library location beginning June 15.

End of Summer Reading Program “Red Carpet Party”
It’s a wrap! Once we have finished having a blast this summer—reading, drawing, dancing, playing music, and exploring our creativity at the Library—it will be time to celebrate all the great things we’ve done by coming to this party. Enjoy crafts, activities and light refreshments in the company of your friends and family!
