Who are the Friends of Oceanside Public Library (FOPL) and what is their mission?
Founded in 1971 as a non-profit organization, the mission of the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library is to support and promote the services and resources of the Oceanside Public Library through community involvement, volunteer activities and fundraising. The organization maintains a membership of persons interested in the library, sponsors special programs and cultural events for both children and adults, and works to enhance the library’s collection and facilities.
What do they do?
FOPL:
- Sponsors library programs and events for all ages ranging from the Reading, Writing and Rhythm cultural series to the Summer Reading Club for kids
- Runs the all-volunteer bookstores in the Civic Center Library and Mission Branch Library
- Sorts donations and conducts quarterly book sales
- Produces annual fundraisers
What do they believe?
- That the Oceanside Public Library and its services and programs are essential to the community
- That every Friend adds a new voice for advocacy of all public libraries
- That every Friend's membership lends weight to grant applications
- That the Library's efforts to keep pace with the changing technological landscape merit the community's full support

The membership dues of interested individuals of all ages, businesses and organizations represent our largest source of income. You – our members – help to provide the necessary support that enables FOPL to present added programs, materials and services to the community. Benefits of membership include receiving the See Gull newsletter, advance notice of special events, and the exceptional feeling that you are making a difference in your community. Stop by the Library for a membership envelope which you can leave with a staff member or drop in the mail. |
